ABOUT

Real estate can be like a merrygoround and a roller coaster all in one. It’s not for the faint of heart. One has to track a zillion details and, at the same time, oversee moving parts and people. It’s no surprise that Annie and Denise handle it all so well. They have practiced their craft long enough to know what counts, and through extensive experience, have seen nearly every possible scenario and addressed a wide range of challenges. Bay Area natives Annie and Denise know the territory first handneighborhoods, schools, parks, transportation, and more.

Annie Oliva

Annie’s dad, Bob Marshall, founded Marshall Realty in 1959. Engaged by the business right from the start, Annie earned her real estate license in1986. She took over Marshall Realty in 2012 and continues to guide the thriving independent familyowned business with the support of talented agents and staff, some of whom are also family. Ask her Broker son, Joey, and he’ll tell you, “She really cares about her clients and always figures out a way to help them.”

In 2013 Anne earned the Silicon Valley Women of Influence award, and in 2015 the citizens of Millbrae elected her as their vicemayor. Annie has lobbied in Washington, DC, on behalf of realtors and has been district chair for a nonprofit that gathers winter coats for kids. Annie has served on the board of directors for the SAMCAR Foundation (the charitable arm of the local realtorsorganization). She often participates in their volunteer program to help local seniors. She has also been an active member of local, state, and national real estate associations for many years.

Talking to Annie, one has the feeling that everyone is extended family; she recognizes our shared humanity and is one of those rare people who take concrete action whenever they can help. For her clients, she is impassioned. Annie works tirelessly to provide service that has her loyal customers returning and referring her and her partner Denise.

When not tackling real estate, Annie can be found engaged in lively political discussion, enjoying a glass of Pinot with her two Yorkies (Mike and Ike) nearby, or tapdancing. Really. An optimist who exudes warmth, Annie brings enthusiasm, confidence, and positive energy to everything she does. Mom, married more than 35 years, real estate maven, Annie makes it easy for her clients to relax and enjoy real estate transactions. They are in good hands with Annie and Denise.

Denise Baker

Denise was born and raised in San Mateo County and has called Millbrae her home for the last 40 years. She still loves the smalltown feel, and back when her kids were tots in the local schools, she “knew everybody”. Still does. Married to a local businessman, Denise now also enjoys being a proud grandmother to two precious granddaughters in nearby San Bruno.

After earning her real estate license in 1997, Denise joined the Marshall Realty team and formed a partnership with her long-time friend, Anne Oliva. Denise and Anne were named “Sales Team of the Year” every year that the San Mateo County Association of Realtors (SAMCAR) gave awards (1998-2008). Their coordination is seamless and their contributions to the community many.

Denise volunteered on the SAMCAR Special Events Committee for more than ten years, raising money to for important programs like food banks, education, and emergency shelters. She actively supported cultural diversity, and political awareness, and over the years worked hard with local teams to put the fun in fundraising.

Going above and beyond the norm, Denise, a Notary Public, earned the Graduate Realtor® Institute (GRI) accreditation, to bring her clients better legal, financial, contractual, and business savvy. As a designated Senior Real Estate Specialist, she knows the nuances of special needs and opportunities for anyone over 50. And she was among the first graduating class of the Bay Area Realtor Leadership Academy—a ten-month course to hone key skills like problem solving, negotiation, regulatory compliance, and client advocacy.

Every day Denise is on the lookout for properties and opportunities that will meet her clients’ needs. When not at work, she can be found playing at the park with the Grandkids or teaching them how to ride at her son’s ranch, surrounded by chicks and ducks and goats. Her favorite activity—handing a new buyer the keys, of course!

“My husband and I bought our first home in our 40s. We’d heard some nutty stories about realtors over the years—many not so good. We were nervous about the home buying process. A friend introduced us to Annie and Denise. WOW! They made us feel like friends rather than clients. It’s been years since we bought that home, but Annie and Denise are always more than happy to help us out when we need referrals for home maintenance and repairs. We consider ourselves lucky to have had them help us find and buy our home.”
