April Fools Day or All Fools Day allows for a day of pranks, jokes, and laughter. A much-needed break for most of us, preparing the perfect gag or a sigh of relief that your jury duty summons as a hoax. Across the world, people take this opportunity to laugh at someone’s expense. Often harmless jokes give everyone time to ease up a bit from their daily lives. Here are some of the best April Fools Pranks that may inspire today’s pranks.
In 1959, a group of students protesting the local government elected a Rhino into the city council. Receiving a whopping 100,000 votes, Cacareco won by an absolute landslide. However, her victory was short-lived, as the council members found her excessive tooting of her own horn obnoxious.
NPR announced Richard Nixon’s campaign for the 1992 presidential election. Running on the slogan, “I did not do anything wrong, and I won’t do it again,” outrage ensued. Hundreds of angry listeners called NPR to protest this. In response, Nixon’s campaign manager decided it might be better to “quit while we are ahead.”
In 2008, a BBC broadcast named “Miracles of Evolution” was aired. It announced the groundbreaking discovery of flying penguins. Supporting Darwin’s theory of evolution, these birds adapted to escape the cold winters of south Antarctica. They were flying thousands of miles to the warm rainforests of South America for a winter getaway.
Whether you are electing rhinos to protest local governments or announcing the fated return of Richard Nixon to US politics, we hope that your day is full of laughter and fun. Relaxing and seeing what your creative self can conjure for the unsuspecting friend can be fun, maybe only once a year.
