As summer winds down and the school year approaches, the Bay Area becomes a bustling hub for back-to-school shopping and other activities. That makes this season a great time to give back to the community. The Bay Area is full of organizations dedicated to ensuring every child starts the school year with the supplies they need. Here’s how you can join in and spread some back-to-school cheer:

1. Salvation Army: With a long history of community support, the Salvation Army’s back-to-school drive is a great way to spread cheer. In an effort to make back-to-school shopping more accessible, they welcome donations of new and lightly used school supplies, including notebooks, backpacks, and gift cards for additional needs at locations across the Bay Area. Discover more about their drive and how you can help here.

2. Raphael House: Based in San Francisco, Raphael House provides emergency and transitional services for families in need. Their annual back-to-school drive hopes to raise $10,000 and provide 90 backpacks for 150 students in need before the start of the school year. Support their drive by donation to their back-to-school fund, or find their Amazon wishlist here.

3. Family Giving Tree: Based in the South Bay, Family Giving Trees’ annual backpack drive has had an important impact since its inception in 1995, hoping to close the educational gap for K-12 students in need. This year, Family Giving Tree welcomes donations to their fund, backpack donations, volunteer work, and invites community leaders to organize local drives.  Find more and donate here.

And many more! By contributing to these organizations, you help ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed. Whether you donate supplies, volunteer your time, or make a financial contribution, your support is invaluable in preparing students for a successful school year.
