Bagels are among the most polarizing foods among foodies. Some think that only New York has good bagels, while others are satisfied as long as it’s smothered in cream cheese. If you are a true bagel lover, you may know that the Bay Area is schmeared with authentic, fluffy yet crisp bagels just waiting to be discovered.

Boichik Bagels

With locations around the bay, Boichick is one of the most authentic bagel spots that never disappoints. The key to these bagels lies in the reverse engineering founder Emily Winston undertook. She spent years perfecting her craft, and the result tastes like a bagel straight out of a New York bakery. When you visit, consider trying the eggything bagel. This classic twist on an everything bagel features egg dough, giving it rich flavor and a wonderful texture.

Hella Bagels

Located in Albany, Hella Bagels offers some of the most unique flavors of the bay. This delicious shop started as a pop up store during the pandemic, and due to high demand, eventually became a brick and mortar store. Their bagels are baked under the rigorous standards of a New York bagel shop, so you can be confident that they are delicious. They are also well known for their flavor packed schmears, including chili crisp, berries and cream, and jalapeño cilantro. With the unique flavors and perfectly crisp bagels, you’re sure to keep going back for more.

Bones Bagels

Not a fan of New York bagels? Try Bones Bagels in Noe Valley. These bagels are made with a leavened Sourdough base, delivering crispy, fluffy, slightly tangy bagels. At Bones, the menu is kept simple yet always rotating and features unique flavors, such as a salted rosemary bagel and sundried tomato cream cheese. The menu changes weekly, so be sure to check the website in advance to see what flavors are being served before you go.
