Spring has officially sprung, which means it’s time for the inevitable spring cleaning. Many people dread this time of year because it can feel like there are too many things to clean and not enough time or help. This year, follow these tips to bring some fun into your routine cleaning.
Have a friend or family member help out.
While it may not seem like a significant change, having someone to hang out with you can make all the difference. Not only will your work take half as long, but you’ll also have someone to chat the day away with. You can even reward yourselves at the end by ordering takeout to eat in your freshly cleaned home!
Create a playlist.
Everything can be made better with music, and cleaning is no exception. Before you start your cleaning journey, be sure to create or select a playlist of your favorite songs. If you don’t have a good playlist, you could also pick out a podcast to pass the time. With seemingly infinite options, you’ll have no trouble passing the time as you breeze through the episodes.
Race against time.
When it feels like time is dragging on, try racing against it. Set a timer for any amount of time (10-20 minutes is recommended) and see how much you can get done in that amount of time. With each time increment, aim to set a high score by outperforming your previous performance. Not only will it help the time pass more quickly, but it will also help you regain your pep when you hit a slow point.
Play “treasure trash.”
If you’re trying to rally a group to clean with you, consider implementing games such as treasure trash to keep morale high. The objective of the game is to pick up and put away the most trash and clutter. The rules are simple: the leader (you) will identify something out of place. Everyone else in the room will try to figure out what it is by picking up and putting away messes. This game continues until the mystery trash is found, granting the finder bragging rights.
