Overcome your winter blues with National Hunt for Happiness Week! Spanning from January 17-23, this week is designed to help bring joy back into the mundane parts of life while we have shorter, colder days. This week was created by the Society for Happy People, under the leadership of Pamela Gail Johnson. Her goal was to help people recognize the small things in their days that can bring happiness. It is not about living a 100% happy lifestyle, but about creating balance and remembering that happiness is all around us.
Want to participate this week? Here are a few ways that you can hunt for happiness in your life this week. The best part? You don’t have to make any dramatic changes to your routine. Just sit back and be more mindful of the joys that life sends your way.
Take a walk and look at the nature around you.
- It doesn’t have to be a long walk, but getting in touch with your surroundings can spark joy, and the views around your neighborhood can increase your happiness and appreciation for where you get to live.
Call an old friend
- Talking to someone is a great way to find happiness, and who knows, you may end up reconnecting with someone you haven’t heard from in a while. If you do this, make sure to leave lots of time in your schedule for long conversations and many laughs!
Enjoy a home-cooked meal,
- The comfort and warmth that come with food are sure to spark some joy in your week, and taking the time for yourself is always nice. Whether you’re cooking a family favorite or trying something new, cooking is a wonderful way to cultivate happiness.
Have a movie night with someone
- While it is a silent activity, watching movies with people is a great way to connect. Bonus points if you watch an old favorite movie, because nothing is better than a classic crowd-pleaser.
No matter how you spend this week, make sure to enjoy the happiness of your everyday life!
