Happy Wednesday! Did you know today is more than just Wednesday? It’s also the day of the Buck Moon. Every July, a Buck moon rises, which symbolizes growth, transformation, and even strength. The Buck Moon was named by Native American tribes because it signifies the time of year when male deer, also known as bucks, shed their antlers and begin to regrow a new pair.
Because the deer are experiencing a new stage of growth, the belief is that we can too, as we are encouraged to “shed” any practices that no longer serve us. This can include unbeneficial habits, spiritual practices that need to be reworked, or even ways of thinking. Under the moon, you will be given a chance for fresh beginnings that will serve you for the next calendar year.
Your “sheddings” can also include implementing a new practice, as this is a time of renewal. Think of this time as a second chance to work out New Year’s resolutions, as we are just past the halfway point of the year.
If you’ve never heard of the Buck Moon, you may have heard of it under the name of Thunder Moon, which is named for the presence of early summer thunderstorms. It is also fondly known as the Hay Moon, due to the harvesting schedule for farm crops, or as the Raspberry Moon. Some may even know it as the Salmon Moon because July is when Salmon are most commonly harvested.
Regardless of what you call this moon, consider the day a time for reflection and new beginnings.
