This summer weekend, escape into the Californian landscape and explore some of the best trails that the Bay Area has to offer! Whether you are a seasoned hiker or just looking for a leisurely stroll with a nice view, there are trails for everyone to enjoy.
If you are looking for a day trip along the California coastline, Mount Tamalpais and Muir Woods in Marin County offer some of the most iconic trails and views in the country. At Mount Tamalpais, the famous Dipsea Trail (7.5 miles) and Steep Ravine Trail (1.5 miles) are great options for those seeking a moderate to challenging hike. Only a half-hour drive away, you can experience the incredible grandiosity of the California Redwoods face-to-face at Muir Woods National Park. At over 250 feet tall, these Redwoods are internationally recognized as some of the tallest and oldest trees in the world. The Main Trail Loop (1 mile) is perfect for families and anyone interested in spending time amongst these incredible pieces of nature!
In the Upper Peninsula, Coyote Point in San Mateo offers a mix of outdoor activities and scenic beauty. Perfect for families, the park features several trails, and picnic areas, and also houses the CuriOdyssey Science Museum and Zoo. The San Francisco Bay Trail (1.4 miles) runs inside park grounds and offers stunning views of the bay and its wildlife!
Before you leave on your adventure, here are a few of our tips to stay safe:
- Bring Essentials: Even if it usually doesn’t get too hot in the Bay Area, it is important to always bring sunscreen, food, and water on any hiking trips.
- Plan Your Route: Before leaving, make sure that you know the area well and have plans in case of an emergency.
- Leave No Trace: Do your part to make sure that these trails are as beautiful for everyone else by carrying out all trash and staying on marked trails.
We hope you enjoy your hike!
