As the days get longer and the temperature begins to warm, it is the perfect time to spend evenings outdoors with friends and family. There is something very magical about cinema under the stars on a warm spring or summer night. The Bay Area has a lot to offer in the outdoor movie scene throughout the summer, with multiple locations throughout and lots of pre-show entertainment.

  1. Sundown Cinema, San Francisco: Nestled in some of the city’s most beloved parks, this annual program provides free outdoor movies in the summertime. Be sure to reserve a spot in advance and enjoy all the local food and drinks around the cinema and pre-show entertainment. Last year, the schedule included Top Gun: Maverick, Mamma Mia, and Ghostbusters. Visit their website here to learn more about this year’s offerings!
  2. Starlight Cinema, San Jose: Located in St. James Park, this weekly summer program brings the South Bay together in celebration of film and community. Last summer, more than 250 viewers came to see Moana, with performances from Aloha Nui Dancers, free Hawaiian face painting, and food and drink from local business retailers. Find their website here.
  3. Movies on the Square, Redwood City: Join Redwood City in Courthouse Square for free outdoor movies with family, friends, and the community This season, they are showing two movies every Thursday, a family-friendly movie at 6 pm and a feature film afterward. The events will begin on June 6 and end on August 29. Check their website here for their updated schedule!

… and many more! We hope you enjoy all the outdoor activities the Bay Area has to offer this Spring.
