Happy holidays! This year, celebrate family time with a local theatre production. Before becoming a Broadway and box office sensation, Wicked was born out of the vibrant San Francisco theater scene, opening in May of 2003 with its iconic original cast. The show was constantly tweaked in its first months debuting to a Bay Area audience at the Curran theater, making the city a lasting part of the musical.

The Curran Theatre, located near Union Square in San Francisco, has a long history of  pre-Broadway engagements, more than any other theatre in the city. After opening in 1922, the theatre has housed early renditions of Peter Pan in 1954, La Boheme in 2002, as well as long runs of The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Its historic architectural style is a landmark for the Bay Area, and is still one of the best places to catch some live theater.

This year, catch the newest musicals and plays with San Francisco Broadway! Here are some of our favorites:

1. Hamilton: This historic musical follows Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and his legacy, and has become one of the most successful Broadway shows of all time. The show is playing at the Orpheum Theatre through the beginning of January, get tickets here!

2. Some Like It Hot: This Tony Award winning musical is a comedic telling of two musicians dancing through Chicago. Some Like It Hot won more awards than any other show in its season, and is playing at the Orpheum from January 7th to 26th. Find tickets here.

3. Annie: This iconic musical has captured audiences since its opening in 1977, and tells the story of a young orphan searching for her biological parents. The fun-filled iconic show is returning to the SF Orpheum Theatre February for a limited run from the 6th to the 9th. Find tickets here.
